Geospatial Toolkits Available for Wind and Solar Resource Analysis
The Geospatial Toolkit (GsT) is a free, open-source, map-based software application that provides an intuitive, user-friendly interface for visualizing and quantifying a country or region’s renewable energy potential.
The GsT maps renewable energy resources (e.g., for solar, wind, and biomass) in relation to enabling infrastructure like roads and transmission lines, providing the government and private sector important information for investments in new generation. The GsT’s query functionality also enables targeted quantitative analysis of solar, wind, and biomass potential under a variety of user-defined scenarios to inform high-level prospecting and integrated planning. GsTs have been developed for over 20 countries. Geospatial Toolkits are available for download online.
