Launch of the Imperial College London Clean Power Program
The Imperial College London in collaboration with the Grantham Institute and the Children's Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF) has launched the no-cost "Clean Power Program," which consists of three open online courses about the opportunities and advantages of clean power, the tools needed to build a global low-carbon power sector and the challenges and solutions of the energy transition. The courses are taught by Imperial College London academics and the material was developed with expert input from Greening the Grid.
Through this course you will learn:
- How to balance different political priorities to deliver clean power policies;
- What benefits clean power implementation can bring to different countries around the world and, specifically, what they bring in your context;
- What makes a successful, renewables-friendly policy environment;
- How to attract finance for your clean power projects;
- How to deliver secure and affordable clean power; and
- How to integrate a high volume of variable renewables into a grid successfully.

The Courses
Why Move Towards Cleaner Power
The first course in the series looks at how increasing greenhouse gases are warming the climate and what it means to decarbonize the power sector. The course will explain how a decarbonized power sector fits into a wider set of political priorities, including health, technology, energy security, economic growth and the environment, for any country or region.

Creating a Pro-Renewables Environment
The second course in the series helps provide the tools needed to build a decarbonized power sector around the world. This course explores a range of perspectives from diverse stakeholders such as investors, utilities, regulators and project developers. The course also describes the power sector policy landscape in detail and illustrates how policies can help stimulate the growth of clean power.

Incorporating Renewable Energy in Electricity Grids
The final course in the series discusses the challenges renewable energy resources can pose to a reliable, stable electricity system and how these challenges can be addressed. The course uses a wide range of country and context-specific examples to demonstrate the wide range of established technologies, policies and operating procedures available to achieve a flexible, reliable electricity system with high penetrations of renewable energy resources.
